iPhone users received the Monday launch of the iPhone 3G S and its 3.0 operating system with mixed sentiments.
First-generation iPhone user and marketing manager Daniel Chong, 28, lamented:
"Those functions already exist in other phones. I was hoping for a more powerful camera with optical zoom. And the compass is a gimmick nobody would use."
However, intern lawyer Liu Fenghao, 25, said: "I like the spotlight function. Applications will be more engaging because of the faster speed."
Singapore customers can get their hands on the new iPhone 3G S as early as next month, said SingTel. A spokesman told my paper: "The new iPhone 3.0 software will be available as a free update to all existing SingTel iPhone 3G customers from June 18."
While Singapore prices are not yet available, the 16GB and 32GB models cost US$199 (S$290) and US$299 respectively in the United States.
Noticeably absent at its San Francisco developers' conference on Monday was Apple chief executive Steve Jobs, who has been on medical leave since January.
