The Boys' Brigade Sharity Gift Box campaign, which aims at celebrating and highlighting the spirit of sharing and giving during the festive period, closes today.

So this festive season, in the midst of partying away with friends and loved ones, don't forget to give a little back to society, in the form of contributing to the Sharity Gift Box campaign.

Launched last month, this year's Sharity Gift Box campaign is the 18th one for the Boys' Brigade ( BB).

"This is a unique project as donors are encouraged to go beyond purely financial giving and are instead challenged to make the extra effort to buy gifts for the less privileged in our society," the BB said in a statement to the press.

Gift Boxes have been stationed island-wide for the past month. Members of the public are welcomed to drop general food items such as rice, cooking oil, salt, sugar, milk powder, biscuits, or even toiletries, into the boxes. These will be collected by BB and distributed to its beneficiaries.

In a further step to take the charity project online for the digital masses, BB, in collaboration with eMart, also invites donors to contribute merely with a click of the mouse.

Here's how you can help.

It's simple. Much like how you would buy stuff on eBay, all that is needed is a visit to their website to check out the share-a-gift or grant-a-wish features.

Share-a-gift allows users to make online purchases of food hampers. eMart will take care of the order and delivery. You can even type in a personal message to go with your gift. For Grant-a-wish, needy individuals have listed their wishes with various regional charities. Users can likewise make a purchase for a particular person online.

The organization has also expressed that items they are in need of include: sugar, salt, Halal canned food, cereal and adult diapers.

Jonathan, a spokesperson for BB Sharity Gift Box mentions that they are hoping especially for food donations to be fulfilled.

"We urge the public to come in and contribute to our food wishes either through delivering your items straight to our HQ or online through eMart," he says.

BB also indicated that as of 17 Dec, 113,604 food items (Target : 400,000 items) have been collected, while 3,000 specific wishes (Target : 8,040 wishes) have been fulfilled. Updated figures will be announced at their closing ceremony later this afternoon.

The BB Sharity Gift Box campaign will have its official closing ceremony at Vivocity at 3pm today. However, online contributions can still be made through the website.

The BB's sharity hampers online target is $130, 000. To date $16, 840 worth of hampers has been received.

As you surf through the vastness of cyberspace this holiday, perhaps searching for that perfect Christmas present for your loved one, or looking for the ultimate festive getaway, do spare some time to also help the less fortunate.
