THE first round of The New Paper CyberChallenge 2007 kicked off to a good start yesterday. A crowd of about 100 gaming enthusiasts gathered from as early as 10am at the atrium of Funan DigitaLife Mall to participate in the four-day event.
And over the next three days from 11am to 7pm, teams will be pitted against one another in five games either on the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) game console or personal computer (PC).
Yesterday's round saw teams battling it out in NBA Street Homecourt on the PS3 and Battlefield 2142 on the PC.
Other games to be played are Fight Night Round 3 and Command and Conquer on the PS3, and Command and Conquer 3 on the PC.
The finals will be held on Sunday from 4pm where more than $13,000 worth of cash and prizes are up for grabs - $8,600 in cash and the rest in PS3 game consoles and Electronic Arts games vouchers.
Visitors to the mall can take part in a lucky draw and four lucky winners will each take home a Sony PlayStation Portable game console and an Electronic Arts Uefa Champions League game.
Each bundle is worth $400.
The challenge, organised by The New Paper, is hosted by Sony with partners Electronic Arts, Rapture Gaming and AsiaOne.
