Slim and sleek - new collection of Apple iPods

Slim and sleek. That's the first impression you get when you see the newly refreshed range of Apple iPods, which was unveiled in Singapore today.

Targeted at the end-year buying season when the consumer pocket is filled with bonus, the new iPods feature new colours, bigger storage space and new interface design.

Except for the iPod Touch which is a new addition to the iPod line, the others are refreshed versions of existing products. Only 8mm thick, the iPod Touch is revolutionary. A look-alike of the iPhone, it has a gorgeous 3.5 inch touch screen.

Users use their fingers to navigate the features like music, video, photos and Web surfing. No stylus will work on this device as the screen technology is only activated by the touch of skin against the surface.

It is also "intelligent". If you have a landscape photo, you can rotate the device sideways, and the image will automatically appear in a landscape position. Apple has included its web browser Safari in the iPod Touch. It has built in Google Search and Yahoo! Search so that you can quickly and easily find information you need.

Apple Singapore and retail outlets are taking orders for the iPod Touch but you won't get it until end of September because the product is still in production. The model is sold at $498 and the 16GB, at $698.

The iPod Nano is the most popular product in Apple's MP3 range of products. Hence, it is no surprise that Apple has re-fashioned it completely. It is now a sleek 6.5 mm think device capable of holding not only songs but videos as well. It now comes with a 2-inch screen which Apple claims has the sharpest display in all of the company's products including its computers.

The user interface has been improved. Now users can see the cover of an album or TV show. To see the songs or episodes just click on a cover, the flip side appears with the list of titles. Another new addition is games, three of of which are preloaded with each new iPod Nano.

The new interface and games are also available in the iPod Touch. Interested buyers can get their hands on the iPod Nanos now. It comes in five colours. Consumers can expect to dish out $248 for the 4GB model which comes only in silver. The 8GB is priced at $348 and comes in silver, black, blue, green and (Product) Red.

The most wearable MP3 player in Apple's list is the iPod Shuffle which weighs in at 16 gm. It also comes in new colours like blue, silver and green. The 1GB model is $138. Available now.

The rock of iPods is the iPod Classic which comes in 80GB and 160GB versions, retailed at $428 and $598 respectively. It can hold up to 40,000 songs or 200 hours of video. It also has the enhanced user interface that is seen in the other iPods.
