Former Singaporean lawyer Gopalan Pallichadath Nair has been instructed by the court to report daily to the police as a condition of his bail, reported The Straits Times today.
The 58-year-old returned to court yesterday to have one of the two charges against him amended.
This now specifies that Nair's accusations against Justice Belinda Ang of the High Court were made in a posting on his blog, and not in an email, said the local daily.
He had, in his blog, allegedly insulted Justice Ang while she presided over a case last month.
The three-day hearing involved the assessment of damages in a defamation suit that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew won against the Singapore Democratic Party, its secretary-general Chee Soon Juan and his sister, Chee Siok Chin.
The previous charge said that Nair had insulted her through an email he sent.
Nair also faces a second charge for insulting another High Court judge in 2006.
Under new court instructions, he is to report at 9am daily to the Central Police Division, as a condition of his $5,000 bail. He was previously only required to report when asked to.
Nair had apparently missed an appointment last Friday but according to his lawyer Chia Ti Lik, a miscommunication with the police was the cause of Nair's no-show.
Nair will continue to report daily until the police notify him otherwise. He is due in court again on July 14.
