LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Nintendo Co Ltd sold 666,000 units of its Wii video game console in the United States in June, becoming the country's best-selling video game console, the company said on Thursday, citing figures from market research firm NPD.

Nintendo, which competes with Sony Corp and Microsoft Corp in the rapidly expanding video game market, sold 783,000 units of its DS handheld gaming device in June and was the top-selling U.S. video game system of the month.

Six of the games on June's top 10 best-selling game list are made for Nintendo hardware, including Activision Blizzard Inc's "Guitar Hero On Tour" for the DS.
