ARE the new MacBook and MacBook Pro due to hit shelves here late next month?

Apple retailers my paper spoke to at Sim Lim Square said they are awaiting details of the release from Apple.

One salesmansaid that his store has stopped ordering current MacBook models.

According to Internet sources, both notebooks will see their first design overhaul since adopting Intel processors in 2006.

So, what are the features the new notebooks are touted to have? We check out some teasers.

A "greener" Apple

AppleInsider.com said the Mac- Book is likely to ditch plastic casing for an eco-friendly body made of aircraft-grade aluminium and stainless steel. Look out formatte black and tapered edges.

Glass Multi-Touch Trackpad

Macrumors.com said the Mac- Book may feature glass trackpads with full Multi-Touch capability, like the iPhone and iPod Touch.

No more Intel chipsets

AppleInsider also said the new notebooks may sport mysterious third-party chipsets in their Intel CPUs.

Prices for the MacBook are likely to start from US$999 (S$1,430), down from US$1,099.

A juicy riddle for MacBook fans: Apple insiders have revealed that the new updates will be "all about the Brick". What that means is anyone's guess.
