PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA: The public has been warned not to fall for another batch of bogus short messaging system (SMS) messages telling recipients that they have won prizes from Shell Malaysia.

The SMS will tell the recipient that they have won a cash prize from the oil company, a spokesman for the company said in a statement.

"Please do not reply to the message. Shell does not use text messages to communicate with our contest winners," it said.

All contest winners would be announced by Shell through their website and media advertisements.

Winners would also be notified through phone calls by a Shell appointed agency where the winner's name, identification card number and address would be verified.

Bank account numbers are not required, it stressed. --THE STAR
