TOKYO, JAPAN - Japan's Sharp Corp. said Wednesday it will voluntarily recall over 16,000 liquid crystal projectors after two started fires.

The projectors, the XV-101T and five other types, were manufactured between January 1990 and August 1993 and only circulated in Japan, the company said.

Sharp has received reports on two incidents since last year, in which the projector left plugged into the socket discharged electricity and started a fire, the company said.

No injuries have been reported, the company said.

The projectors include those sold under the brand names of Japanese electronics makers JVC and Panasonic, it said. --AFP
