KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Electronic gadgets seem to dominate the Christmas wish list this year.

As Christmas tunes filled the air in shopping malls here, eager shoppers were seen hunting for the hottest gadgets in town for their loved ones.

From teenagers to adults, digital music players, PlayStation Portable (PSP) games and Personal Digital Assistant (PDAs) are a hit for this holiday season.

The same goes for digital SLR (single-lens reflex) cameras, even among teenage girls.

"I think a perfect Christmas gift would be a digital camera," said Danielle Brooks, 14, who just bought an iPod Nano at the Mid Valley Megamall yesterday.

The portable media player by Apple Inc was among items that were selling like hot cakes.

Her brother, Jordan, 16, chose a big headphone which he could use for his digital music players.

"This is why I take my children shopping for their Christmas gifts. I have already got an early present for myself -- a PDA!" said their mother, Helen.

She said practical gifts like electronic gadgets were more useful than decorative items which could only be displayed at home.

For friends Christopher Jeya and Jeswinder Paul, PSP and Internet-connected multimedia smartphones like the iPhone, would be the perfect gifts.

The two agreed that jeans or photo frames were among the boring gifts for Christmas.

However, Lee Tet Leon, 19, a photography buff , was keen on getting a lens for his Canon 40D camera.

"I know it's a trend for teenagers to carry digital cameras everywhere they go now, but I'm really interested in learning the art of photography."

Siblings Jia Lerk, 21, and Jia Xin, 19, thought puzzles and small ceramic items would not make good gifts. Both seem to favour big soft toys.

For kids, PSP games and action figures like Ben 10 were the favourites. Girls mostly prefer Barbie dolls and accessories.
