EVEN as Internet telephony such as Skype remains popular, along comes another service that lets cellphone users make unlimited calls and send text messages using just their cellphone and a broadband connection.
The catch: Users here can do it only from home. And the technology is still plagued by technical problems such as network interference and poorer voice quality, said analyst Jayesh Easwaramony.
Still, the new femtocell technology has been touted by analysts as a way for telcos to win over people who are giving up fixed phone lines.
