Named and shamed for failing to return computer

A Netizen named and shamed a repairman on a local online forum, after the latter failed to return his computer.

Local Chinese daily Shin Min Daily News reported that the Netizen posted his grievances in a post titled 'Beware of scammers'. The Netizen, who was not named, alleged that the repairman took his computer away, saying that it was late and the unit would be returned to him once repairs were complete.

That was also the last time the Netizen saw his computer. It had been three months since the computer was taken away.

Shin Min reported that the Netizen claimed to call the repairman everyday, but to no avail. A police report was also made, the Netizen said in his post, but the authorities have been of no help in resolving the matter.

The Netizen wrote, "After some time, the repairman refused to take my calls."

"Be careful of this man. It was just today when I heard from one of his business partners that he had already made off with a number of computers this way."

The repairman's name and phone number were also posted online, along with the name of the company he works for.

Shin Min managed to contact the repairman, who identified himself as Mr Zhuo, 26. He told the Chinese daily that he owns a company in the computer maintenance and repairs business, but also does repair jobs himself on the side.

Mr Zhuo said that the customer in question was introduced to him when he had just set up his business in January last year. He was taking over the premises of a computer repairs store that had closed down, and the previous owners referred the customer in question to him.

"I visited the customer at his home two months ago to fix his computer. However, the repairs were not completed by 11pm, so I told him that I would take the computer home to continue on my work and return it to him on a later date." Mr Zhuo told Shin Min.

He also said that the customer's computer contained some outdated parts and it would take some time to find compatible replacements. That and the fact that he was occupied in his work meant that Mr Zhuo could not find time to return the computer to the customer.

"I did not take the customer's computer away for three months." Mr Zhuo said. "Every time he called I would answer the phone and try to explain things to him, but he would not listen to what I have to say."

Mr Zhuo also told Shin Min that he intends to return the computer soon.
