Agnes told Lianhe Wanbao that whenever the youth wanted money, he would bombard her mobile phone with up to 50 text messages a day. Afraid that her husband would find out, she would agree to lend him the money.

Until now, her husband and children are still in the dark and do now know that she had already lost all her personal savings to this youth.

"He knows that I dare not let my family know about this, so he will message me repeatedly in order to pressure me into giving him money."

Between October 2008 and August 2009, Agnes had transferred various amounts of money to this youth some 20 times, with the total sum coming up to about $20,000.

At one point, she had even take out money from her insurance policy in order to satisfy the young man's demand for money.

To gain her trust, the youth had even written an IOU, but he had been uncontactable of late. Agnes had also received a call once from a woman who was supposedly the youth's mother, who promised her that he would return the money.

However, the woman on the line sounded too young, and Agnes believed it was just one of the youth's friends who was recruited to trick her into further trusting him.

Said Agnes of her experience, "To this day, I have never seen a cent of my money. I've been cheated!"
