It's quite amazing how fast the consumer electronics world is hurtling towards high-definition (HD) images.
Although televisions are mostly HD these days, I always thought it would take much longer for camcorders to catch up.
After all, filming HD video requires a lot of digital storage space and powerful computers for video-editing.
It looks like these geeky issues are not a real issue for manufacturers if you see the way they're churning out new models for consumers.
JVC (that stands for Victor Company of Japan, if you're wondering) has launched one that it claims is one up over its rivals.
The Everio GZ-HD7 shoots HD video at 1,920 by 1,080 resolution, compared to current Sony and Canon models, which shoot at 1,440 by 1,080 resolution.
In plain English, you're supposed to see more details with the Everio.
It records video onto a 60GB hard disk (good enough for five hours of its best-quality video, or seven hours of 1,440x1,080 quality video).
The camcorder boasts a Fujinon lens, optical image stabilisation, 3CCD imaging system, full manual controls, advanced focusing and exposure aids and HDMI output.
