Blackmagic Video Recorder

THIS Video Recorder from Blackmagic, which specialises in video and graphics cards, is a compact USB plug-in that captures analog video and converts them to H.264 files which are compatible with iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, YouTube and iTunes.

There are two models. The standard Blackmagic Video Recorder for consumers which has RCA analog and S-Video inputs to connect to video equipment such as DV cameras, video players, etc. There is also a professional model, Blackmagic Video Recorder SDI (Serial Digital Interface), which features SDI input with RS-422 deck control.

There are loads of movies on videotape which has to be converted before the tapes degrade over time, especially in our tropical climate.

There are also professional videotape programs which also need to be moved to computers, which makes it possible to sell to customers online, or used in IPTV applications.

A software application for capturing video comes with Video Recorder. For the SDI model, the software has built-in deck control for a remote broadcast deck. Video Recorder will be available in July.

How much: US$119 (S$161) for Video Recorder. SDI version will retail for US$299 (S$405).
