There's nothing like roasting your enemy with three fireballs unleashed in quick succession - with a single key press instead of having to press it thrice.
This is what macros are for in gaming keyboards. I have been toying with the idea of getting one for a long time until I tried the Sidewinder X6 recently. Technically, I haven't bought it yet but I will when it launches next month. This is Microsoft's first true gaming keyboard and I am so impressed that I will be plonking down over $100 for it.
Microsoft Sidewinder X6 Keyboard
$119
Aaah, gaming bliss: There are 30 programmable macro keys on the keyboard - more than enough for my new Death Knight character, which I am about to create in the Wrath Of The Lich King beta and for commanding my troops in Red Alert 3 (to be out next month).
Programming the macros is easy. For example, if you want the S1 key to automatically press the number 1 key three times: Press the record key followed by the macro key you want to assign the macro to. Then, press number 1 three times and press record again to complete the process.
Also cool is the detachable number keypad which you can place either on the left or right of the keyboard.
Simply slide it near the keyboard and the device latches on using tiny magnets.
What really sets the X6 apart from the competition is the fantastic tactile feel of the keys - great for both gaming and typing.
