They feature the new Blu-ray 2.0 format which allows users to go online - via their Blu-ray player using a link they see on TV - to download extra content such as 'Making Of' featurettes and movie trailers. This requires hard disk space, which was not included in older Blu-ray players.

The size of the downloaded files vary and memory space depends on whether users want to keep or delete them.

The pricier S550 comes with an extra 1GB of flash memory and is able to decode DTS-HD audio, one of the newer high-definition audio formats.
