Canon D10 waterproof digital camera

By Yeong Ah Seng

A CAMERA is used more frequently if it can be quickly put to use.

This means it should be compact, waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof (in colder climates of minus 10 deg C) and can be easily whipped out for use.

Canon's D10 fits the description.

Although it is somewhat thicker than comparable compact digitals and looks a little wacky, it has redeeming qualities.

It can take considerable punishment - dunk it in water up to a depth of 10m, or drop it from a height of 1.22m, and it will still work.

This 12-megapixel camera has a smart shooting mode that selects the appropriate settings for the camera, based on 18 pre-defined shooting scenarios. With Blink detection - when subjects' eyes are closed - a 3sec warning appears when pictures are reviewed.

Most interestingly, the D10 has a unique connection system at its corners where the user can plug in all manner of optional attachments to improve the stability and usability of the camera.

How much: $599
