First look: Olympus E-P2

By Tan Chong Yaw

Just half a year after Olympus released its bestselling E-P1 system camera - nicknamed the "Pen" - the company has today announced a follow-up model - the E-P2.

One highlight is a detachable external electronic viewfinder.

Expect very sharp images - six times the detail you will find on the LCD display - through this viewfinder that boasts a whopping resolution of 1.44 megapixels.

The viewfinder will be a standard accessory of the E-P2.

Resolution remains a sane 12.3 megapixels.

Some of the new features include:

* Two new Art Filters - think of these as quick in-camera Photoshop tweaks - Diorama and Cross Process

* Tracking autofocus - the focus will cling like superglue on your chosen subject

* HDMI control - use your TV's remote control to work the camera when it is hooked up to your TV.

The camera which oozes retro chic is expected to hit our stores next month.

Just in time for Christmas.

Prices will announced at the end of this month.

Catch a review on a pre-production model of this cam in the coming issue of Digital Life.
