As more PC users recognize the importance of purchasing anti-virus software to keep their computers safe nowadays, so have the number of options available to them.
Although it is no new entrant to the anti-virus and security software market, Kaspersky is still a relatively new name in Singapore.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 is the Russian company's basic security software package, and at $31.00, offers a full set of features and functionalities for a great price.
Installing the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 software is easy - all I really had to do was to click a couple of buttons and verify my product code. The software runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Aside from the basic security features like protection against viruses, trojans and other malicious software, I also found the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 to include many nifty features that have greatly increased user-friendliness.
One of my favourites it the ability to set the software into 'Game Mode'. This instructs the software to not interfere with currently running programs like PC games, which might either slow down the computer or cause a conflict should it be active.
Previously, most users would have to turn their anti-virus off before launching a game, but 'Game Mode' has essentially solved this long-standing problem.
I also liked the software's identity theft protection features, and how it colour-codes links to malicious websites and disables the links to them. These features, meant for the less tech savvy, or for kids, are definitely very family friendly and useful in a shared home computer.
Users will also find the software's interface easy to understand and use. Other than a few slightly more tricky menu functions, most of the security settings are pretty much straight forward to implement even by basic users.
The Verdict
A very good, fully-featured basic security software for computers. Additional functions and helpful features also add to the value of this software.
One of the more affordable security software in the market, this might be one to consider when it's time to renew your anti-virus licence.
