Show me the gadgets!
If you are a technophile, Comex is your gadget nirvana. We checks out what's in store
at this year's show.
QUICK, answer these: Do you want to catch footage of Rafael Nadal as he starts his quest for the US Open in high-definition glory? Or do you fancy bobbing your head to the tunes on your latest music player? Or how about yakking for hours on your hot touchscreen phone? If you answered yes to any of the above, the Comex show is for you. Mention Comex and you'll reduce fullygrown men - who won't admit they are closet geeks - into a salivating, hyperventilating mess. They should be forgiven. It is after all the biggest tech show in Singapore, where over 800 brands hawk their latest playthings at incredibly low prices. How low? Well, how does $499 for an LCD TV sound? If you thought last year's show was the biggest, prepare to be bewildered this time round. This year's show promises even more tech toys - the event sprawls over five show floors or some 300,000 sq ft at the Suntec City Convention and Exhibition Centre. That translates to nearly three football fields of exhibit space. The variety of tech toys on sale will also make any geek weak in the knees. On offer are anything from Apple music players and Samsung high-definition televisions to SingTel broadband deals and Norton anti-virus software. If the cheap deals and good buys aren't enough reason for you to whip out your credit card, the event's lucky draw offers will. For every $100 spent at the show, shoppers will stand a chance to win the grand cash prize of $20,000. Be prepared to fight the crowds though: show organiser Eastern Directories expects more than one million visitors to throng the halls.
