JOHOR BARU: The accountant who admitted to sending an SMS regarding the resignation of Deputy Education Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong was declared a bankrupt in 2002 - twice. "Some members of the public informed us about it and after checking with the Malaysia Insolvency Department we found that he (Chong Chai Huat) had been declared a bankrupt twice (10 days apart) in October 2002," Johor Baru MCA Youth secretary Ching Chee Siong told a press conference here yesterday. Ching said the motive was clear as the matter was brought up at this point in time when the MCA elections were taking place. He said Dr Wee had helped some foreign students who were swindled by the education group in which Chong was the managing director. He said lawyers from the MCA were looking into the matter. Ching revealed that Chong had sent the SMS -To whom it may concern: Countdown 90 days " Dr Wee Ka Siong will resign from all the posts by 20.10.2008, just as Dr Chua" to 12 people in Johor Baru including two state assemblymen here. He said the MCA also wanted an English daily to apologise on its front page for playing up the matter like it was a sex video issue. Dr Wee, who was still upset that the case was blown up by the media, said the ethics of the media should be looked into. He said he knew the identity of the 12 people who received the SMS from Chong, adding that he had already directed his lawyers to act accordingly. Chong, the founder of TCS Education Group, would not be reached. Last week, he said he sent the SMS on a prediction he made based on information that he had obtained. He did not reveal why he sent the SMS, adding that he would issue a statement on Aug 16. Related Links: Minister to sue accountant behind 'dirty' SMS
