Singapore wins prize for brain-computer interface

A*STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) is tops in a Brain-Computer Interface Competition held in Vancouver, Canada.

They won first position in all three categories for electroencephalogram (EEG) based non-invasive interfaces at the Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) conference in Vancouver, Canada.

The I2R team of eight beat a total of 35 submissions from all over the world including reputable research organisations from Europe, US, Australia, and Asia, etc.

Professor Lye Kin Mun, Deputy Executive Director (Research) said, "I would like to congratulate Dr Guan Cuntai and the team for this achievement. This simply proves that our in-house developed technologies are able to compete with the global offerings on a level playing field. I see this achievement as having a stamp of recognition from fellow researchers over the world for the team at I2R."

The I2R team consists Dr. Zhang Haihong, Dr. Ang Kai Keng, Chin Zheng Yang, Dr. Guan Cuntai, Wang Chuanchu, Phua Kok Soon, Dr. Brahim Hamadicharef and Tee Keng Peng.
