WHEN it comes to DSLRs, Sony is the new kid on the block, and its A350 carries the most features in its new entry-level range.
It has the highest resolution of 14.2 megapixels in the range. However, the amount of data that has to be managed slows its rapid shooting down to 2.5fps.
The image in the viewfinder also seems smaller than the others and not as bright. But the A350's live view is the best when implemented.
A dedicated switch and a unique dedicated sensor make live view shooting a more relaxed and enjoyable process.
The A350 is unabashedly large compared to the 450D and D60.
While it weighs almost 1kg when fully loaded, it is still lighter than the K10D.
Joints on its articulated LCD panel are solidly made and while it can only swivel vertically, high and low angle shots are a breeze.
The A350 conducts a rapid and busy dance before locking focus. It has nine focus points and 40-segment metering which make for mostly accurate photos. The flash has a GN 12/39 rating.
While the menus and information screens are the plainest, changing the camera's settings is easier as there is no double clicking required.
The battery life indicator is the most informative.
Sensitivity goes up to ISO3200 but the A350 does not match the D60's finesse when it comes to noise management.
The kit lens has the longest range of 28-105mm.
Chockful of innovations, the A350 offers features that the others lack.
