THE 10.2-megapixel D60 is the latest of Nikon's junior DSLR series. It has no built-in focus drive motor which will probably not make a difference to a beginner.
However, the lack of a focus drive motor may grate on you when you start building your lens collection.
The body and kit lens of the D60, at 815g, are heavier than the 450D's. Its kit lens which possesses vibration reduction is also the most robust of the four cameras in the DSLR series, which comprises the D60, D40, D40x and D450.
The D60 has the least focus points of the four - only three - but it is the most refined in autofocus.
Flash performance is also very accurate.
The reach of the GN 12/39 flash is bettered only by the 450D's GN 13/43.
Like the 450D, the D60 has aesthetically pleasing pastel menus and information screens.
And at ISO1600, it gave the cleanest results, hands down.
While the D60 has the meatiest and most comfortable grip as well as a bright viewfinder, the viewing area seems smaller than the other three.
Well built and well designed. A definite good buy for those on a budget.
